Tafsir of the Qur’an (Urdu)
This class is offered with the intention that we reconnect to Allah’s word and let the Qur’an heal our hearts, shape our thoughts, and transform our lives بإذن الله. Allah Most High says:
كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَيۡكَ مُبَـٰرَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا ءَايَـٰتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُواْ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ
(This is) a book that We have revealed to you, full of blessing, that they may ponder over its verses and that men of understanding may reflect. [38:29]
and We have sent down to you the book explaining all things, and a guide and a mercy and glad tidings to those who submit (to Allah). [16:89]
The Qur’an has more impact on human history and human life one could realistically claim than any other book ever has. The Qur’an comes particularly at a critical juncture in history and in a sense is the reason for that juncture. It begins this extraordinary process whereby the ancient world is turned completely on its head. Whichever way we look at the sources, we can not deny the basic fact of the text’s impact. Within a couple of decades or so the Qur’an had taken its own people -the Arabs- from one end of the religious spectrum to the other. They did not believe in life after death now they are completely preoccupied with life after death. They had no overarching moral or legal scheme. They were divided into tribes and now they had the Shariah which is the beginnings of God’s revealed law in which tribal affiliation had no particular significance. They had been polytheists and now they were told to exclusively focus on one God defined in a particularly severe and uncompromising way. A radical transformation is the consequence of the appearance of this book in history. Not only does it transform its immediate environment but it reaches out and transforms the Mediterranean world, the Persian world, most of the African world, and continues to transform the world. The Arabs after having been at each other's throat for who knows how many millennia were united by this new message. Holding this text and not with very much else, were overrunning far more civilized civilizations with the power of this monotheistic message. [An excerpt from Shaykh Abdul Hakim Murad’s lecture]
Since the Qur’an contains a limitless ocean of meanings, we will make the Ahadith of the Prophet ﷺ, the statements of Sahaba رضي الله عنهم, and their students the Tabi’een رحمهم الله as our guides in understanding the meanings of the Quran.
